Where Do I Find It in Respondus?
#1 What is the best way to add a table to an exam question?
Respondus includes a table editor that works like those found in word processors. To insert a table:
- Position the cursor in the question where the table is to be inserted.
- Click the "Power Edit" button on the toolbar
- When the Power Editor opens, select the "Insert Table" button from the toolbar (it's the rightmost button on the top toolbar)
- Create your table as you normally would in a word processor
Speaking of word processors, Respondus allows you to copy and paste most tables from MS Word. What you don't want to do is paste an HTML table into Respondus from another application. While this is entirely possible (using the HTML Editor in Respondus), the disadvantage is that you won't be able to print that table from Respondus if you use this approach.
#2 Where do I obtain additional dictionaries for the spell checker?
The spell checker is located on the toolbar (second tool from left). It is accessible when the Edit tab is selected.
Three dictionaries are included during the installation of Respondus: American English, Canadian English, and British English. A free bundle of supplemental dictionaries can be downloaded from the Respondus website, which includes French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Finnish, and medical terminology. See:
http://www.respondus.com/download/dictionaries.shtml.
#3 Is there a way to select preference settings in Respondus?
Yes. From the File menu, click Preference Settings. Here you can change a wide variety of default settings:
- Modify the "Check for Update" settings
- Edit the file description
- Change the default point value for questions
- Show an "ALT" window for entering image text for screen readers
- Select the format for equations (gif image, MathML, etc.)
- Choose settings for converting files from one CMS to another
