Tech Tip: “Can exam questions in an online course be used with StudyMate?”
Our Support Group is sometimes asked if there is a way to turn assessment questions that already exist in an online course into StudyMate activities. The goal, of course, is to avoid having to “copy-and-paste” or retype the questions.
With Respondus and StudyMate, the solution is easy:
- Start Respondus and select the CMS/VLE being used (eg. WebCT, Blackboard, etc.)
- Select the “Retrieval & Reports” menu and then select the “Retrieve Questions” tab.
- Retrieve the assessment or question pool using Respondus.
- Save the file in Respondus, noting its location on your hard drive. Then exit the Respondus software.
- Start StudyMate. Browse to and open the file that was previously saved in Respondus. Depending on the question types contained in the original file, StudyMate may offer to convert or drop certain questions.
Now that the questions are in StudyMate, you can edit them further or simply publish them to your online course as Flash-based activities and games.
