In our last newsletter, we announced that we were working with ANGEL Learning on a Respondus LockDown Browser integration. That integration is now complete, and institutions can begin to use it if they are running ANGEL 7.3 (with the July update) and ANGEL 7.4 (with the August update).
Respondus LockDown Browser's integration with ANGEL is seamless. Once the ANGEL administrator enables the appropriate environment variable on the server, instructors will see an assessment setting that, when enabled, requires students to use Respondus LockDown Browser to access the assessment.

You might ask why there's been so much demand for the Respondus LockDown Browser integration when ANGEL offers a free secure browser. The answer is that Respondus LockDown Browser offers a broader range of functions and capabilities. For example, there is a Mac version of Respondus LockDown Browser, an installer that enables students to put the browser on their own computer, and a slew of security features that aren't available in ANGEL's free version (such as blocking keystroke combinations to launch other programs, blocking virtual machine environments, preventing IM sessions that are initiated from other computers, and so on.)
Another advantage is that a single installation of Respondus LockDown Browser can be used with multiple learning management systems – ANGEL, Blackboard Learn, Moodle, etc. This greatly simplifies matters for everyone, from administrators to students, where multiple course management systems are being used at an institution.
You can try all of this for yourself by requesting a free, 2-month pilot of Respondus LockDown Browser. Simply contact your Respondus account representative or fill out the license agreement available at the bottom of the Respondus LockDown Browser web page.
