"I'd like to also express my gratitude for your software. I use Respondus daily and train our faculty in its use. Never before have I worked with a software product that offers faculty so many uses and features, and that is so easy to use. Please pass these compliments on to the developers. They are right on the mark."

Getting Started with Respondus-Ready Test Banks

When we talk with customers about the Respondus Test Bank Network, the response we often hear is “Wow, I didn’t know about that.” The concept is very simple: if you use Respondus or StudyMate Author, and if you use a textbook from a leading publisher, you can get the official test bank for that textbook in Respondus format for free. From there it’s easy to create online tests, learning games and even iPod activities using the publisher content.

To get started, spend a few minutes watching the Respondus demonstration movie “Downloading Publisher Test Banks”. It shows how simple it is to use Respondus 3.5 to download test banks from the Respondus Test Bank Network -- over 1500 are available.

Once a test bank has been downloaded with Respondus 3.5, another good movie to watch is “The Respondus Exam Wizard”. Here you will see how to create an assessment from a publisher test bank using a simple wizard. And if you’re not familiar with how to publish an assessment from Respondus to an online course, see the movie “Publishing an Assessment to a Course Management System” (there are separate movies for Blackboard, ANGEL, WebCT and QTI users, so select the one appropriate for you).

StudyMate Author users can use the same process to download publisher test banks from the Respondus Test Bank Network. Once the files have been downloaded, it’s easy to create Flash-based learning activities and games, or even review materials for iPods. An earlier newsletter article provides step-by-step instructions on how to use StudyMate Author with publisher question banks: “Using Publisher Question Banks to Create Flash Activities with StudyMate Author”.

Remember that test banks from the Respondus Test Bank Network are free. Instructors who adopt a participating textbook can download these publisher-provided test banks directly with their Respondus or StudyMate Author applications.

Test banks from an ever-growing number of publishers are available from the Respondus Test Bank Network, including those from Pearson Education (Addison-Wesley, Allyn & Bacon, Benjamin Cummings, Longman, Prentice Hall), Cengage Learning (Brooks/Cole, Course Technology, South-Western, Wadsworth), McGraw-Hill Higher Education, and many other North American publishers.

Publishers in Europe and Australia also participate in the Respondus Test Bank Network, including Oxford University Press, Cengage EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Wiley Australia, among others.
