StudyMate Class Server

StudyMate Class Server is the ultimate study group where teachers and students create study materials in a collaborative, web-based environment. Simple templates are used to enter items such as glossary terms or facts from lecture. Students can then view the materials using self-assessments or interactive learning activities. StudyMate Class Server integrates seamlessly with Blackboard courses and creates a social learning environment that is fun, engaging ... and a bit addictive!

Why It's used

  • Students learn at each step of the process: creating, editing and reviewing items (no more blind memorization of course materials)
  • Instructors can select student-generated questions for use on tests, resulting in "fresh" questions each term
  • "Social learning" fosters peer accountability and makes the course more engaging
  • Student participation can easily be tracked and graded, providing an additional way to assess student knowledge

Quick Start Guide
The 3-page Quick Start Guide for StudyMate Class Server is all most instructors need to get up-and-running. The appendix section includes several "Teaching Scenarios" with specific suggestions on how to integrate it into courses.

Pricing and the Free "Lite" Version
StudyMate Class Server is currently available as a free beta release. When the final release occurs, beta participants can continue using the final release version through December 31, 2008. Thereafter, institutions have the choice of purchasing a license for StudyMate Class Server (see price list), or being switched to the free "Lite" version of the software (see comparison of features). The "Lite" and standard versions of StudyMate Class Server use the same Building Block or PowerLink connector, so no reinstallation is required for institutions wanting to continue with the Lite version.

Beta Installation and Licensing
The beta release of StudyMate Class Server is available to institutions running the Blackboard Learning System (Enterprise 6.3+, Vista 4.0+, CE 6.0+). The service is hosted on a Respondus server, but requires that a Blackboard Building Block or PowerLink be installed to the institution's Blackboard server. All institutions participating in the beta release will receive a free license through December 31, 2008. Thereafter, institutions can either purchase a license for StudyMate Class Server or continue using the "Lite" version for free (see above). To participate in the beta program, the license administrator of your institution's Blackboard Learning System must fill out and return the StudyMate Class Server License Agreement.
